Occupational reference clause

The abstract reference clause (abstrakte Verweisung) is a provision in older disability insurance contracts that allows the insurer to deny benefits if the insured could theoretically perform a different occupation — even one below their qualifications or income level. Modern BU policies without this clause are significantly more policyholder-friendly and are now standard.
