Premium refund / no-claims bonus
A premium refund (Beitragsrückerstattung) is a benefit offered by some insurers, whereby part of the premiums paid is refunded if no claim was filed during the insurance year. It is particularly common in private health insurance and some household contents policies. The aim is to incentivise policyholders not to report minor claims, thereby reducing the claims ratio.
