Coverage confirmation (legal insurance)

A coverage confirmation (Deckungszusage) is a written statement from a legal insurer confirming that it will cover the costs of a specific legal proceeding. A coverage confirmation should always be obtained before instructing a lawyer. Without it, one risks having to pay the costs personally. The confirmation is usually issued after reviewing the facts and assessing the prospects of success.
