Waiting period (disability insurance)
The waiting period in disability insurance is the time between the onset of occupational disability and the start of benefit payments. It is typically 6 months. A longer waiting period reduces the premium but increases the risk of a financial gap. During the waiting period, savings or other cover (e.g. daily sickness allowance) should be in place.
