Waiting period (pet insurance)

The waiting period is the time after taking out a policy during which no coverage is yet in effect. For pet insurance, it typically ranges from 2–8 weeks for illnesses and 14 days for accidents, depending on the provider and plan. Its purpose is to prevent policyholders from taking out a policy only after their pet has already fallen ill.
